PISANG (Professional Islamic Support and Nurture Group) is a not-for-profit organisation registered in England. PISANG is a service-oriented organisation and provides services to everyone regardless of religion, sex, age or race. Although we follow Islamic guidelines in providing our services, you do not have to embrace the Islamic faith to benefit from our services.

What is it?

Pisangtherapy Retreat

Pisangtherapy Retreat is an innovative therapy for jinn-related disorders. Pisangtherapy intervention will be applied on the participants during the period. The Pisangtherapy Retreat, introduced in December 2013, will deliver numerous significant advantages compared to ad hoc ruqyah. Since December 2013 we have organised over 150 retreats. If you have been spending too many sessions of ad hoc ruqyah without much progress, or have just realised that various information you found on the internet have misled you, or see yourself spiralling down with your self-treatment, then the retreat will InshaAllah deliver the breakthrough in therapeutic benefit that you badly need.

How many times have you felt or being told by the ruqyah reciters that the jinn has left but later on found out that it is still there. Or perhaps you have been told by the ruqyah reciters that you get a relapse because a new sihr has been sent. How can you be sure of the "stories" that nobody can verify? Do you feel down because some ruqyah reciters have accused you of being the source of your predicaments? Pisangtherapy Retreat will give you a better understanding of what is going on within you. Through the understanding and the realisation of your potential, the retreat will help you to build your self-esteem and move forward with your life.

Ad hoc ruqyah involves a lot of unproductive travelling time and a lot of money spent on travelling. These resources (time and money) can be used efficiently by attending the retreat in order to achieve a much higher therapeutic efficacy. In addition to that, 9 sessions of therapy done over a long period of time e.g. 1 year, will not have the same effect as 9 sessions of therapy done over 3 days.

PISANG is a specialist centre for jinn possession disorder. Our focus is on scientific research and bridging Islamic knowledge with modern medicine and psychology. Through our research we are able to pioneer innovative therapy for jinn possession disorder. This unique combination of knowledge and research has made Pisangtherapy excels over other ruqyah-based therapies.

Pisangtherapy Retreat is becoming increasingly popular. We limit it to only 4 participants per retreat so that we can give more focus on each participant. Each participant will get 9 therapy sessions per retreat. Participants are required to be present throughout the retreat period.

PISANG - Ten years on

The first meeting to form PISANG was held in Malaysia in late 2007. Subsequently PISANG was registered in the UK on 8th May 2008. Over the past 10 years we have made significant progress and achievement. When we started, people were sceptical about jinn possession and many of those who were suffering from jinn possession lived in fear of being labelled as superstitious and backwards. We started our drive for public awareness through organising mobile clinics and training on ruqyah in UK, Egypt, Yemen, Australia, South Korea and Malaysia.  We also organised 2 experts seminars on "The implementation of sihr law" with the Selangor State Mufti Department in Malaysia. Since then, people no longer felt inferior in talking about jinn possession and the number of ruqyah centres mushroomed.


Our mission is not limited to awareness but to make interventions for jinn possession mainstream. This cannot be achieved by posting exorcism videos on YouTube. Instead it need a lot of academic research by combining naqli (Islamic text) and aqli (logic, experimental) evidences to create evidenced-based intervention. Our own internal research has produced Pisangtherapy as an effective intervention for jinn possession. Pisangtherapy stands for Psychological Intervention for Spiritual Actualisation N Gratification Therapy. It is a combination of ruqyah and Islamic-Existential and Humanistic psychotherapy. Our psychotherapy philosophy is derived from Islamic exisetential philosophy and focuses on guidance towards achieving Spiritual Actualisation (state of Ihsan as mentioned in Hadith Jibrail) with Gratification (shukur) as a feedback assessment. 


Our efforts in mobilising professionals and academicians to embark on research on jinn possession is progressing at a very encouraging rate. We have participated in many academic conferences including the recent International Muslim Mental Health Conference 2018 in Malaysia. A lot of papers on ruqyah and jinn possession were also presented by various participants during the conference. Discussing about jinn possession is no longer a taboo and Prof Dr Hatta Shaharom, a leading psychiatrist in Malaysia, advised participants not to waste time arguing with those who do not believe in jinn possession.

As we move into our second decade of operation, we are also planning to train competent therapists for jinn possession. Our therapists will be required to have a good understanding of various knowledge such as anatomy and physiology; psychotherapy theories and approaches;  and other relevent modules. Only Muslims who can read the Quran with tajwid are eligible to enrol on our courses. Further details will be made available later.

PISANG opens office in Malaysia

PISANG has been active in research on issues relating to jinn possession since we started operation. Our research aims to create our own evidence-based therapy for diseases and disorders with an underlying jinn possession factor. Results from our research is used to improve our therapy and as more results are obtained, we will be able to formulate different procedures for different diseases and disorders. Ruqyah has been and will still at the core of our therapy. Over the past few years, we have successfully created Pisangtherapy, a therapy which integrates our own Islamic-based psychotherapy approach with ruqyah. The introduction of Pisangtherapy Retreat has also enabled breakthroughs that have helped many of our clients to move forward with their life. Those who were confused by misleading claims and videos on the internet now have a clearer picture of how to deal with their predicaments after attending Pisangtherapy retreats.

PISANG provides therapy and we want to ensure that those who trust us will benefit from our therapy. Empathy is part and parcel of our discipline in delivering therapy. We are here to help our clients and not to blame them. Our approach has attracted the widest possible spectrum of people seeking therapy from us. Our clients range from the very poor to the very rich, the very young to the very old. Those who have not been practising Islam feels comfortable to seek help from us. Those who have or are still committing major sins come to us with the hope of sorting our their life. Many who have been humiliated or frowned upon by so-called "practising" Muslims felt comfortable seeking help from us. Empathy is one of our main strength. Our aim is to deliver effective therapy. The effectiveness of the therapy is influenced by many factors. Empathy is one of the factors. With empathy, a therapeutic alliance between the therapist and the client can easily be build. This in turn helps to increase the effectiveness of the therapy. Another factor that can help improve therapy is scientific research. Scientific research will create grounded knowledge which can help to increase the effectiveness of therapy. Our involvement in research indicates that we do not like to parrot what others say.

We are pleased to announce that we have opened an office in Cyberjaya, Malaysia. Cyberjaya is the heart of scientific and technology innovation in Malaysia. The office will focus on supporting our existing research and will also embark on new research on therapy for different types of disorders. Initially, our Malaysian office will provide limited therapy sessions (by appointment only) and priority will be given to those with disorders related to our research.

Will there be a large PISANG Centre?

PISANG is a not-for-profit organisation, registered as a company limited by guarantee. There are no shareholders in PISANG. This means that PISANG has got its own legal entity and is not owned by any individual. Any assets that PISANG owns belongs to PISANG alone. The assets are not owned by the directors or any other individuals. Since the formal registration, PISANG has been operating from the current property known as "Pisang House" in Bicester. The property is privately owned and does not belong to PISANG.

On the long run, PISANG will need to grow financially, increase the number of professionally trained therapists and build up its own assets to enable it to continue providing services to those in need. In order to make this financially viable, a large centre will be needed. However the cost of acquiring a large centre is very prohibitive. The rate of donation received so far for the PISANG Centre project gives a clear indication that the project can never be realised in our lifetime. However we would like to thank those who have contributed and are still contributing via monthly contributions. The donation received will still be reserved for acquiring a new centre bi iznillah. Those who have been giving donations share our vision and hope that the PISANG Centre project will eventually become a reality, inshaAllah. We are still committed to acquiring a large PISANG Centre to ensure that PISANG will continue to provide services to those in need.

We are taking a more realistic approach to acquiring a large PISANG Centre. With property price in Bicester increasing rapidly, PISANG will have to acquire a smaller property quickly before it is too late. Based on our experience since we started operation in 2008, we cannot rely on donations as a source of funding. Most of the donations since then have come from the directors of PISANG. We now have to look into borrowing money from those who wish that PISANG will continue to provide services. Our plan now is to immediately purchase "Pisang House" at the current market value. Work will inshaAllah start next month (March 2017) on extending the property. The extension is needed to enable us to start training therapists. We aim to raise £450,000 to purchase the property and pay for the extension. We hope that those who have been using our services will be able to loan PISANG whatever amount they can afford for a period of 5 to 10 years. Terms of repayment can be negotiated. Over 2000 people have benefited from PISANG and if 450 people can loan PISANG £1000 each, we will be able to raise the amount required. We are also currently looking at other business opportunities in order to raise money to repay the loan as soon as possible.

Next Phase for PISANG

The idea of forming PISANG to promote Islamic Medical Treatment using ruqyah as a core treatment was floated back in late 2007. The idea was the result of brainstorming by 5 people in Malaysia. Several objectives were set in order to promote Islamic Medical Treatment as a respected mainstream medical discipline. Since then almost all of the objectives have progressed significantly. PISANG was promptly registered in the UK in April 2008. Soon after registration, PISANG organised ruqyah mobile clinics in various cities in the UK and promoted the notion that jinn can cause diseases and disorders. In those days, the awareness of jinn as a contributor to diseases and disorders were met with skepticism by many people. There were voices raised in the media and internet of disbelief that we were talking about jinn in the new millennium. To them jinn only existed in medieval times. Now those skeptics have been silenced. PISANG also trained hundreds of people in UK, Egypt, Yemen, Australia and South Korea in the field of ruqyah.

PISANG have made many other contributions since then even though PISANG is run by a very small committee. We have collaborated with Jabatan Mufti Selangor Malaysia to organise two experts seminars on sihr law. PISANG was a key founder of Gabungan Persatuan Pengubatan Islam Malaysia (GAPPIMA), a national umbrella organisation for ruqyah practitioners in Malaysia. We have also worked hard to ensure that Islamic Medical Practice was accepted by the Ministry of Health Malaysia when the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Act was tabled in Malaysian parliament. Our involvement in academic research is ongoing and our own internal research has produced Pisangtherapy Retreat, a therapeutic intervention for jinn possession that excels over other interventions. Recently we are also a key founder of Persatuan Terapi Holistic Islam Malaysia (THIS), a national organisation in Malaysia to research and promote an Islamic-inspired holistic approach in health care.

These contributions and successes were the results of our dedication to work in a professional manner despite under the constraint of scarce financial resources. The bulk of the financial resources were from contributions of the committee members. Our small team of committee members have delivered amazing results over a relatively short period.

Even though we have achieved a lot, we are still dedicated to do a lot more. Our next phase is to set up Yayasan PISANG (PISANG Foundation) in Malaysia. This will enable us to contribute more effectively in promoting a holistic approach of Islamic Medical Practice with ruqyah as a core treatment. Yayasan PISANG will start to provide treatment and therapy, engaged in academic research and provide quality training for those who want to be professional Islamic Medical Practitioners. We will also be more engaged in academic research in order to make our Pisangtherapy Retreat an evidence-based intervention for jinn possession.

Ruqyah refers to the healing method based on the Quran and hadith through the recitation of the Quran, seeking of refuge, remembrance and supplication that is used as a means of treating sickness and other problems, by reading verses of the Quran, the names and attributes of Allah, or by using the prayers in Arabic or in a language the meaning of which is understood. The use of ruqyah as a method of treatment is popular among the Islamic alternative healing practitioners. This method of ruqyah is based on the recommendations and practices carried out by the Prophet (pbuh) for self-treatment or to help his Sahabah and others. Through analysis of the inductive, deductive and historical approaches, this article aims to explain the views of Imam al-Bukhari in relation to aspects of ruqyah and its use in the treatment of disease by analysing some chapters translated (tarjamah al-bab) by Imam al-Bukhari in the Kitab al-Tibb. The results show that the use of ruqyah in the treatment of diseases refers to the discussion of the seven chapters translated (tarjamah al-bab) on three main issues:

[1] The use of ruqyah from the Quran, [2] Conditions in using a ruqyah, and [3] The types of ruqyah recommended by the Prophet.

Reciting Quran and Listening to Quran

Allah has revealed the Quran as shifa' (remedy) and mercy to believers. Ruqyah syar'iyyah is a shari'ah-compliant incantation which uses Quranic verses, salawat, do'a etc which are permissible in Islam. Some people found out that they have jinn possession disorder after getting negative reactions as a result of listening to ruqyah or after listening to surah al-Baqarah for example. This may prompt them to seek ruqyah therapy to get rid of the jinn within them. Ruqyah therapy on its own may not be enough to solve the problem and the therapists would normally advise the person to embark of various other amals e.g. zikr and the recitation of Quran. This will not be a problem for those who know how to read the Quran. May Allah give them shifa' through the recitation. Amin. But what about those who do not know how to read the Quran? Would listening have the same effect as recitation?
